Community organisations pick up $63,500 from Heritage Charity Golf Day

Some deserving community organisations can now fund important projects after receiving money from the Heritage Bank Charity Golf Day.
A total of $63,500 was distributed to 12 groups from across south-east Queensland at a presentation for grant recipients at Heritage Bank’s head office in Toowoomba on Friday 7 February.
The Heritage Bank Charity Golf Day was held on 6 December 2019 for the 22nd year and has now raised more than $880,000 for some worthy community groups.
Heritage Bank CEO Peter Lock presented representatives from the organisations with their grant and praised the work they do in the community.
“These organisations are providing excellent services to countless members of our communities, many of whom are going through tough times,” Mr Lock said.
“It’s an honour for Heritage to be able to support the great work being done by these wonderful organisations and demonstrates how Heritage is passionate about helping people.
“The Charity Golf Day brings together some community-minded businesses in the numerous event sponsors and Heritage. The day provides a way for us to show our support for the communities in which we operate.
“I love having the chance to present these grants to very deserving beneficiaries each year.”
The Heritage Charity Golf Day beneficiaries are:
- $5,000 to Autism Queensland for a new playground/learning space to be developed within the grounds of the Sunnybank Hills campus.
- $5,000 to Blush Cancer Care for Calories for Cancer is a 12 week exercise program run by exercise physiologist and scientist at The Fit Lab for those diagnosed with Breast Cancer and/or recovering from chemo or radiation treatment. The exercise program has been scientifically proven to prevent relapse by 50%.
- $5,000 to Hope Horizon for the Conquer Cancer Exercise Program which provides patients with supervised exercise interventions from highly qualified and experienced exercise physiologists.
- $12,500 to Ipswich Hospice Care to purchase new beds and an alternating pressure mattress.
- $5,000 to OzHarvest for their Cakes for Cause campaign which provides chef-made birthday cakes for people in our community whose birthdays are usually forgotten.
- $7,500 to Safe Haven Community to promote awareness in the community and bring older women together with women fleeing domestic violence abuse to help each other. They are looking to find 100 citizens in the community that will become providers to offer home-based accommodation.
- $4,000 to Lifeline Darling Downs and South-West Queensland to install solar panels at their SafeStart Housing site. The SafeStart program supports women and children escaping domestic and family violence.
- $5,000 to St John Ambulance Queensland to deliver their First Aid in School Program (FAis). This is a free program for students that can give them the basic first aid knowledge, skills and awareness, which contributes to building a more resilient community.
- $5,000 to The Sunlight Centre to fund the creation of a handbook to accompany the counselling sessions.
- $1,500 to Toowoomba Table Tennis Association for the replacement of the flooring with better grip and softer surface to provide a safer environment.
- $6,000 to Toowoomba Women’s Shed for the replacement of sewing machines and consumables.
- $2,000 to Toowoomba PCYC who have supported our golf day since the beginning.
