BPAY SMS scam impersonating Heritage Bank

Be aware of fraudsters pretending to be from the Heritage Fraud Team and requesting your secret passwords, card details and codes.

Be on the on the lookout for a scam SMS, claiming to be from Heritage Bank, contacting you about a BPAY transaction on your account.

Scammers use impersonation tactics like “spoofing” software to make the caller ID name to appear to come from a legitimate Heritage number. The SMS messages may come from a mix of phone numbers.

The scam message may advise that at a BPAY transaction has been completed on your account and if not authorised, to call a number. 

The provided phone number is NOT a genuine Heritage Bank phone number.

If you call this number, scammers will claim to be from “Heritage Fraud Team”. They may request you to share sensitive information such as your One Time Passwords, PIN, internet banking passwords or personal details.

What you need to know

Be wary of calls claiming to be from Heritage. If you are unsure, disconnect and call us back on 13 14 22

We will never contact you asking you to move funds to another account.

We will never ask you to reveal a One Time Password (OTP) to us – that is private and individual to you. If you share your OTP, you may fail to meet Heritage Bank’s passcode requirements which could result in you being liable for losses arising from unauthorised transactions on your account.  

While Heritage may send information, or confirm receipt of items, by SMS and email, we will never send requests for you to share personal security details such as your PIN, CCV number, internet banking passwords or credit card details.

What you need to do

Always check the authenticity of any unsolicited call, email or message claiming to be from Heritage.  You can confirm if the communication is genuine by calling Heritage directly on 13 14 22  or emailing info@heritage.com.au.

If you are concerned about the security of your account, it’s very important you change ALL your Heritage Online passwords and call us immediately on 13 14 22

If you have been a victim of a scam, you should report it to Heritage and your other financial institutions as soon as possible.
