Food relief services in Gympie have received a helping hand thanks to funds raised by Heritage’s Bank’s annual calendar.

Heritage recently presented Victory Care Services with a cheque of over $3,215 towards hampers for people experiencing food insecurity throughout the Gympie region.

Heritage Gympie Branch Manager Kirsty Chandler said it was humbling to see the atmosphere and impact of Victory Care Services.

“This amazing not-for-profit organisation is run by volunteers,” Mrs Chandler said.

“They work from early hours of the morning, doing the collection from the food banks in Brisbane, and preparing much needed hampers through the day to help the community.

“We’re grateful to everyone who purchased a copy of Heritage’s 2023 calendar. Thanks to their support, we can give back to people in need in our community and provide some relief from the stress of food insecurity.”

Victory Church’s Senior Pastor George Miller said the donation would support the continuation much needed food hampers and meals in the community.

‘These funds will keep the Care Services to the community a viable ministry,” Pastor Miller said.

“It will purchase pallets of food to place into our hampers from Foodbank in Brisbane.

“Those that receive these generous hampers of food are continually thankful for the generous hampers they receive.

“It has been proven that the fresh food in our $40 hampers amount to a saving of $140 if it was purchased through a supermarket.

“In saying that, our Gympie supermarkets and growers generously supply our Care Services with daily, bread and foods and are a necessary provider to our ministry to families who need our service.

“Victory Care Services is so thankful for Heritage Bank and all the businesses that keep the Care Services a viable blessing to our community. “

In a much-loved tradition that began in 1982, Heritage selects a historically significant Queensland home to feature on its printed calendar each year. Copies are made available to the public for a gold coin donation, with proceeds donated to a number of charities around southern Queensland and New South Wales. Heritage began collecting donations for the calendar in 2006 and has since distributed over $383,000 to 73 community organisations.
